Upon taking the stage for the first time as a member of a high school bar band banging out hits by Led Zeppelin and Guns and Roses, bass player Andrew Thomas was captivated by the life of a gigging musician. Since that stage date more than 20 years ago, Thomas has played hundreds of shows with dozens of bands covering styles ranging from rock to rap, country to techno, Spanish-rock to folk music, and disco to the blues.
A graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans, Thomas earned a B.A. in English. He was a regular contributor to the local music scene both as a musician and a writer for Tulane’s newspaper, The Tulane Hullabaloo, before relocating to San Francisco, and later, Los Angeles.
Thomas recently completed his second album, Resonance & Resistance, a follow up to his debut, Then… and Today. Like its predecessor, Resonance & Resistance is a collection of nine basscentric original compositions and one cover song, an instrumental re-imagining of Paul McCartney’s hit “Maybe I’m Amazed.” Thomas is also the author of Garage to Gigs: A Musician’s Guide, a how-to guide for musicians aspiring to perform in bands. Garage To Gigs was released by Billboard Books in September 2008. Thomas is currently working on a follow up book, an illustrated collection of stories and lessons from his career as a musician.
Thomas gigs and writes in Los Angeles, where he lives with his wife and their two children.
